The 3rd report research malakal

Date: 18 / 04 / 2011
Observation:
Through visiting of today, in the first visit of date 28/03/2011; my team mates went to the eastern part of the Mosque, there is a place where/ we when they selling sand and stones just around the market. We found two people who were scooping the sand in to the sack, because if someone want to buy it will be very easy to pack the sack of sand or stone
Then one of us asked the worker about the cost of the sand and stone, here the sand is 20 pounds and the aggregate is 15 pounds. So one of us introduced himself that is called Samuel and also my name is Juma. Just the beginning we call them to take photo together, one of us ask is this materials belong you to you the respond is not and were is owner the saying the owner is sated at the shop they we are works just to scoop the sand and aggregates in to the sacks if any one comes to buy they will call the owner to come well we are continue working.
I introduced myself to them am call Night Clara John and what are your names am call Jacob and my friend is Younis. Then I asks them that, where do you get sand and aggregates or materials? They said that, in Malakal here you will not get any good materials around we use to go to outside counties to bring the materials then another thing here is transport is not easy too and front is very difficult here in Malakal. Even iron bars and iron sheet they bring them all from outside not in Malakal
In this observation, we first have through a second place were by with a lot of timbers in the shop we found the owner we greed him then Samuel introduced himself that we are from the (VTC) Vocational Training Center in (UNU) Upper Nile University in this training we are teachers, this two here are my colleagues Joseph and Clara in one school.

Therefore, one of our colleagues ask the owner of the shop that he ask the sell to introduced himself for us is Jacob he tell us that l am civil engineer, from they we start to ask the prices of the timber ‘’4x1’’ is with 24 pounds, but  the type of trees is not around here in Malakal. Where do you this type of the tree? The transport from outside Malakal because most of the materials is through transportation to Malakal for selling this people here they buy from me and the other materials like bricks, sand and aggregate is not easy to transport the materials is very difficult here in Malakal.

Through this Reflection the activities l discover here is not easy for people to get materials that is difficult to build a good house here in Malakal is problem because through this activities to get them around you will not found, needed you to look for it before starting the foundation of the building

So today we are all here in this site, for casting this form work today. We are really happy because you come to visit us here. Then next time you will visit us again.

REFLECTION:
1. Different types of reflection activities may be made at different stages of the learning experience.

2. Reflection and observation activities can be done at any time during the field trip, beginning middle

3. Reflection activities plan an important role in helping analyze, understand, and gain meaning from instructional technology activities is divides into used at the beginning, middle, end of a learning experience. There are many general activities that could used throughout the training as well.

4. Through we know how critical meaning is to the learning process, most. Learners are document information and different meaning.

5. Reflection activities provide productive processing time, which, is essential if we expect learners to make meaning out of new information.

Report Two Visiting of Market mapping in malakal town.

Night Clara John

Date : 11/04/2011

Observation of activities
Through my observation; the arguments in research report, of course more complex than these simple ones. First, support. We reach there and we find two people who are working on uprooting the tree out, we started greeted them and asking were is the constructed. Then they are saying is not here he want out, so we find two people uprooting the tree out because it just near the wall need to be taken out from the house so that it can not affect the wall. We inform them that we are going some and we shall come back to meet their boost when we came then we find he have not come.

We starting a second visiting; we started to go up to the hospital,we got the place and people were working there then we asked the constructor the reply, he was not there by then. we don't know where he has gone. we are here just a workers, so one person come to us and started to tell us that the constructor is not there then one from our group started telling them that we are from the (Vocational Training Center) VTC as student- teachers we here for research we are asking the place were they is construction workshops and so on, the member give him the paper to read he begin to toll us that we bet go to research center to ask these people there told us more about the construction because here l was not able tell more about the work construction. then we introduced our names to them they also introduce to us their names.

Through the way we are coming to other site to visit we find no people there, we started to move up please call International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) we find a load of materials like bricks, sand concrete block and store construction site but not workers around we do not got any one there. So we back using a differed read to come we seen a new construction site it is able to visit or shall come and visit when we are all most then we well visit.

The renovation in the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) when we reached this side; we found that workers were not available and gate of the office was locked. It was not possible for us to enter since the technical activities were not operating.
In our observed we have that, the renovation in International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) building is about getting finished because the paining in competed up to the walls of the outside gate.(Can you please try to rewrite these paragraphs and related them to your own experience from the market research)

Reflection and observation Practice
I believe that it is extremely beneficial to be a dedicated teacher and to love what you do. It is through this that you find the very best research.

There is also a certain level of creativity that is beneficial to have to be able to make every lesson different and interesting. The greatest skill I think I have to acquire before becoming a Professional is that of being able to engage research attention and respect and be able to conduct a successful research

I believe this practice was extremely worthwhile and beneficial as there are just some things that are learnt by doing and seeing rather than reading or being told in lectures. I am definitely looking forward to my next practice experience.

The time which we shall use begin from 10:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm. Our reasons for fixing this time schedule is to allow us conduct our morning daily data log and access our emails. Secondly to enable us also have our break fast meal and move satisfied.

As our spotted sites are not very far from each other; the two hours visit shall enable us to pay this familiarization visit in the three sites; but our time frame may change if we take the next stage which will require conversation and exchange of open questions.

The stage shall kick up from Monday 11th April 2011 and ends on Thursday 28th April 2011. during this research days, we shall document our findings daily after arrival from the assignment and that is to say, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm shall be the time for this document.

The whole research document shall be compiled from 2nd May 2011 and 5th May 2011, these two days proposed for compilation shall be enough to enable us document, Edith and print for submission to our facilitator.

RESEARCH METHODS
1.Familiarization method:- this methods is to allow us interact with the client and pave way to cooperate and co-ordinate our activities and this is by making full introduction to each other about our familiarity.

2.Observation method :- this is a practical method that will convince our eyes to document what have been seen in the way of doing it and how it is working and what is the out come of doing it.

3.Open questionnaire method:- the type of questionnaire is a form of question that will remain us to ask what is exactly meaningful and get a realistic expected answer.

The type of questionnaire are not to be distributed to the clients to answer by their own; but they get oral questions from us.
The questions are for finding our expectations and they are as follows:

1.What are your aim/objectives foe initiating this technical practice?

The question is to find out from the client if the workshop or site he own is his, or be inherited from his parents; this is when asking the owner of the workshop or building site. But in case of the technician; it may request to find out if he practice this skills for the aim of earning money or it is an interest of the 3 skills that attract him.

2.How did you begin to practice this professional practice?

After knowing from the client that,it was the attraction of the skills to drive him to the technical practice, then; find from him whether; he had been coached by somebody before becoming as professional or just learned on his own.

3.What have you achieved in this professional practice?

The expectation was to find, if his choice of the craf5t had rewarded him both the professional knowledge, skills and sustainable living for his livelihood and demand nothing more than that.

4.Where did you get the materials and skills?
The group wanted to find from the client the possibility of getting the materials; so that the group locate the sites of the materials for future research in the querying or material production sites; this shall enable the group to check the composition of the material mixture in case of sand soil for brick making , gravel or murram and coarse aggregate for tools; there is need for knowing, if their tools are the the modern suitable types or they have some traditional tools that are used in their crafts. In the case of mining or querying the underground materials.

5.What are your future plans?

This question is very important in so many aspects; the group may need to know from the client if the skills acquired is limited and be demands to pursue farther skill learning, also determining the client in case he hes failed to managed the skill and he wanted to shift to another craft that may earm him money and process in his livelihood.

6.Do you think the skill you practice can earn you a profitable money?

In the other sense, the client might invested enough money and have a plan of expanding his workshop or site. Our expectation,he will base on the objective of the research to find out, if he had interest in expanding his professional knowledge and skill, and where? If he wants learning in the work place or learning in a vocational training training practice.

7.As a professional craft technician; how do you look at the quality of performance in malakal?

This is a convincing way for dragging the client to accept upgrading skill; but finding his opinion first and suggest to him to get more skills whether in workplace or in vocational training facility.

8.Do professional practice have access to employment or entrepreneurs opportunity?

`the research here wants to find the competition of skill in malakal and find out those craft that are not so popularly practice; this is in order to research on getting the full reasons why they are no popular. Secondly to find out the constraints in the workplace.

9.How shall you compare your craft with other?

This is to enable the curriculum of the current vocational training practice; whether the content of learning curriculum is injecting like skills or dead skills; we mean the skills that are not marketable and life skills are those skills their market is booming. In case the answer is “No” then there shall be need to suggest in the finding for review of the curriculum in the vocational training facilities. `

10.Shall you accept us to interact jointly to find and share the reflections of our skills to improve the technical activities for better productivity?

there is need to find the client's ambitions in the type of crafts and his expectations of how it should be. So the group would like to find the client how he reacts to get himself involved in that present craft. Interaction with the partners is a good sign of cooperation and coordinating affairs and it improves the understanding among the two sides. The group for better results of the objectives outcome expects to build up a strong relationship between the themselves; the researchers and the technical vocational practitioner who are the clients. The clients includes the workshop technical, building construction site technicians, materials yard workers and the material production site workers. In getting positive comment shall be able to achieve the objective and goal of the research. In case the response is not conducive, another window of opportunity shall be device for the success of the market technical activities research in malakal.

General comments:
You have chosen to visit at least two site each time you go to the field (is the realistic and achievable??)
(As stage two is an introductory and acquaintance visit; It is realistic to have three sites to enable us to achieve the objectives; as mentioned earlier in case of getting on person doing the actual technical activities in one of the sites.)

You have chosen to do systemic research meaning you started from A to P is there any other options you could have considered?
(Our choice was classified according to activities e.g. Renovations sites are the first priority.)

When are you planning to document/write down the data you are going to gather?
(We have proposed Monday 25th April 2011 to be the day for compiling the report.

You have listed 10 research questions what do you really what to find out from asking them?
(Our main objectives in this questionnaire is to get this findings.)
When did they establish technical activity facility or company.
Where did they acquire the skills.
Is the activities rewarding.
Are materials available.

Reflection and Observation

TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION FOR TEACHERS/UPPER NILE UNIVERSITY/ MALAKAL

THEME: MAPPING OF TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES IN MALAKAL

ITEM: REFLECTION AND OBSERVATION

(IN GROUP ) (01)

1.Night Clara John
2.Joseph Amule Eliyuda
3.Samue Imma Romano

INTRODUCTION
The mapping of technical activities in Malakal is designed to carry out a research survey for finding the technical activities within area.

The primary objective for observation and documentation of the activities spotted.
These programs were carried on 28/03/2011 and 31/03/2011 respectively.

On 28/03/2011, the team managed to spotted nine technical activities sites.
1.building maintenance sites – 3
2.new construction sites – 3
3.material yards – 2
4.material shop – 1

On second trip was conducted on 31/03/2011 and we spotted seven technical activities sites and these sites comprised of the following.
1.building maintenance site – 1
2.new construction sites – 3
3.material store – 2
4.carpentry workshop – 1

OBSERVATION:
Our observation of the two trips of mapping the technical activities in Malakal went as follows:
1.The technical activities in malakal town are rarely located in comparison to other town in south Sudan.
2.Some of the technical activities spotted are on small scale that is the workers are very few and doing very little building maintenance.
3.Most of the building constructions activities have stopped.
4.We have observed very many buildings in the residential areas are collapsing and may need general maintenance.
5.We have observed that most of the technical activities are on metal work.
6.We have observed that the transportation means here is by horses and donkeys.

REFLECTION
After observation of the technical activities we have spotted and in comparison to reflection practice. The following are our reflections:
1.We reflection that there should be a problem for hindering technical activities in malakal and this requires consultation in the areas spotted.
2.We have seen buildings in the residential areas are collapsing and considering the landscape and type of the soil, the design of buildings need to be revised.
3.As we shall continue to carry the research in details; the reflection on why the traditional construction practice has overshadowed the modern construction skills shall be uncovered in the next stages.
4.We have reflected that fencing is built using bars and corrugated iron sheets because of the soil is not resisting compressive loads of brick or store walls.

Observation of two activitiesc

I STUDIED

DESCRIPTION OF AREA

MAPPING IN MALAKAL MARKET

Name: Night Clara John

28/03/2011

NEW CONSTRUCTION STAGE-FOUNDATION WORK FOR STOREY HOUSE.
Through my learning yesterday is one places of the building following the road started from our hostels here going to market then from left hand side, new construction stage-foundation work for storey house near the road, so in our hostels going first bus station from right hand side ;there is construction building where by people comes in the morning for the work.

Then from the western side of MVTC campus; there is a street leading to the market where people sell goods of very many types of materials. Before there; l saw a place where people selling materials of different types of things in market .
The road going to the university male hostels from the market and before reaching the hostel you may find junction then you go where people are selling air-time; you branched to right hand side there clean where by hostels.

OBSERVATION OF TWO ACTIVITIES
Through my learning l have seen some areas where l do not work. We are three in group learning it is my first time for me to go down from the area. I do not go one day. We went up to the market, from the market following the road to the main road. Then we asked one of the boy to tell us the place where C/J workshop is located.

I have seen one of the C/J (carpentry and joinery) work shop at market and store of C/J work shop welding work shop these are the places l have seen in Malakal town. Because, l will not mention them with their names because l do not know the places. l don't know if only around the market where people sell items goods and so on. Then the materials of C/J work shop there in stores; but work shop is not seen in the areas. I asked a boy about industrial areas then the boy said he do not know.

Then we used the other side of road to come back and wait for the car to come, we finally then we come from the place were we have been waiting up to our hostels, waiting for car to come then it finally the car of the school. Drop us up to the market. We started to move around the market looking for the workshop place we could not get the workshop. Then l went to the bus station to wait for the taxi to take me up the road going to upper Nile university to see the area there and around the market .

l started to asked the price of some items, from l come back to the bus station and then l started coming back to the school. From there l started coming back to the school. From there l started doing some programm at the kitchen.

REFLECTIONS
Taking action, making change, experiencing new adventures these are some reasons to get out and do something. But the richness of the experience, the learning from the experience, these are equally important if we are going to transform society through action. reflection is in integral to learning, because it helps us build self-awareness strengthen personal and team growth, and improves our action for the next time. Reflection and observation activities can be done at anytime during the field trip, beginning middle or end. Unlike other field trip activities which build group learning skills, observation and reflection activities focus on individual expression.
